Assam Assembly Elections 2026: Voting on April 9, Counting on May 4

The Election Commission of India has announced that polling for the Assam Legislative Assembly Election 2026 will take place on April 9, with vote counting scheduled for May 4. The last date for filing nominations is March 24.
Following the announcement, the Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect across Assam. Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said preparations are underway after consultations with political parties and officials.
The state has over 2.5 crore voters, 126 Assembly seats, and 31,486 polling stations. The elections are expected to witness intense competition as parties prepare for campaigning in the coming weeks.
