Assam Budget Session Commences with Focus on Realistic Fiscal Approach

The Assam Budget session kicks off at the new legislative assembly building in Guwahati, with Finance Minister Ajanta Neog presenting the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. Emphasizing a “realistic” approach, Neog, representing the Golaghat assembly seat, is set to present her fourth consecutive budget under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. The session, scheduled from February 5 to February 28, will feature the Governor’s address on the first day. Two significant bills, tackling unfair means in public examinations and enhancing tourism appeal, are expected to be tabled by CM Sarma and Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah, respectively, in alignment with earlier announcements. Neog had previously projected Assam’s GDP to reach Rs 5.5 lakh crore in 2023-24, emphasizing schemes to promote microentrepreneurs and create self-employment opportunities for BPL families and low-income households.
