Assam Builds 300 km of New Embankments to Tackle Floods
Assam is constructing 300 km of new embankments in flood-prone areas, aiming for completion by mid-April, said Water Resources Minister Pijush Hazarika. Another 150 km will be built next year. All breaches from last year have been repaired, but strengthening 4,500 km of old embankments will take time and funds. Government efforts have protected flood-prone areas like Majuli, Dhemaji, and Lakhimpur. Anti-erosion projects, funded by the ADB and World Bank, are underway for Brahmaputra and its tributaries.
