Assam Cab Drivers Launch 48-Hour Hunger Strike
The Assam State Drivers’ Association and All Assam Cab Welfare Federation began a 48-hour hunger strike in Guwahati, demanding solutions to long-standing issues. Key concerns include app-based cab services charging 30-40% commissions, defying the Supreme Court’s 20% cap.
Drivers also demand fixed taxi rates, health insurance, provident fund benefits, and an end to private vehicles being used for commercial purposes. Additional demands include free airport parking, pensions for senior drivers, and improved safety measures like CCTV at stands. Protesters hope their strike compels the government to act.
