Assam Cabinet Approves 12% Agniveer Quota, Introduces Green Tax

Guwahati: The Assam Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, has approved a 12% reservation for Assam-domiciled Agniveers in uniformed state services. The quota will cover 11 constable-level categories, including Assam Police, Commando Battalions, Forest Guards, Excise and Fire & Emergency Services.

The Cabinet also approved a ₹3,000 green cess on the transfer of ownership of four-wheelers more than three years old. Two-wheelers, three-wheelers, EVs and CNG vehicles are exempt, along with transfers after the owner’s death. The revenue will be reserved for environmental works such as afforestation and soil erosion control.
