Assam Celebrates Six New GI Tags for Traditional Crafts

A moment of pride for Assam as six prestigious Geographical Indication (GI) Tags have been granted to traditional crafts of the state. The honored crafts include Assam Bihu Dhol, Japi, Sarthebari Metal Craft, Assam Asharikandi Terracotta Craft, Assam Pani Meteka Craft, and Assam Missing Handloom Products. Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma shared the news on ‘X’, hailing it as a significant win for Assam’s heritage. The achievement, supported by NABARD and RO Guwahati, facilitated by Padma Shri Dr. Rajani Kant, GI Expert, highlights the cultural richness and economic importance of these traditional crafts, benefiting nearly one lakh people directly.
