Assam CM Accuses USTM of Worsening Guwahati Flooding

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma accused the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya (USTM), of exacerbating Guwahati’s recent flooding, calling it “flood jihad.” He claimed that USTM’s hill demolition and deforestation for new constructions have worsened waterlogging in the city. Sarma suggested that halting attendance at USTM might mitigate the issue. He also stated that USTM is not the sole cause of flooding but a contributing factor. The Gauhati High Court has directed the government to submit a flood mitigation plan by August 19.
