Assam CM Pledges to Protect State’s Identity Amid Demographic Concerns

Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma reiterated his commitment to preserving Assam’s identity against demographic changes. He highlighted ongoing efforts based on the Justice Biplab Sarma Committee’s recommendations on Clause 6 of the Assam Accord. While 52 recommendations are being implemented, 15 others require constitutional amendments, which will be addressed with the Centre. The Assam Accord, signed in 1985, aims to safeguard Assamese cultural and social identity.
