Assam CM Promises Compensation for Silsako Beel Eviction Victims

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has promised rehabilitation and compensation for families evicted from Silsako Beel. In a meeting with displaced residents, he announced financial aid: Rs 10 lakh for RCC houses, Rs 5 lakh for Assam-type houses, and Rs 1 lakh for Kaccha houses. While residents, like Gayatri Bori, appreciated the assurance, they expressed frustration over the delay in government action. The evictions, aimed at restoring Silsako Beel’s ecological balance, began in May 2022, leading to ongoing protests and clashes with police.
