Assam CM Urges Dialogue After Dibrugarh University Protests End

Amid ongoing protests by the Dibrugarh University Postgraduate Students’ Union over admission issues and a fee hike, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said discussions with students should take place only after the protest phase ends. He stated that protests and dialogue should not happen simultaneously and talks can begin once the situation calms.
Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu reaffirmed the government’s commitment to the fee waiver scheme and 50% fee waiver for self-financing courses. He also urged colleges and universities to submit Utilisation Certificates (UCs) on time to avoid delays in reimbursements.
The clarification came after students launched a 36-hour hunger strike, demanding action over fee hikes and alleged remarks by the minister.
