Assam Commissions Sixth Eklavya Model Residential School at Phuloni in Karbi Anglong

GUWAHATI, October 3, 2026: Assam has commissioned its sixth Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Phuloni in Karbi Anglong district, marking a further step towards expanding access to residential education for tribal students in the state.
Dr Ranoj Pegu, Assam’s Minister for Education and Tribal Affairs (Plain), announced the development in a post on his official X account. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the school and said the new facility would bring quality education closer to children in underserved tribal areas. The announcement highlights the state government’s efforts to strengthen educational opportunities for tribal communities.
Eklavya Model Residential Schools are a Central Government initiative under the Ministry of Tribal Affairs. These schools provide residential education to Scheduled Tribe students from Classes VI to XII, with the objective of improving access to quality education and supporting their overall development. According to the Press Information Bureau, Assam had six functional EMRS institutions as of August 2026. The commissioning at Phuloni adds to the state’s residential education infrastructure for tribal students.
