Assam Congress Alleges Voter Deletion Bid in Electoral Roll Revision

The Assam Congress on Thursday accused the BJP and the Election Commission of attempting to delete voters’ names through the ongoing Special Revision of electoral rolls. Addressing a press conference, Assam Mahila Congress president Mira Borthakur alleged that nearly 6,000 names were being targeted in the Dispur Assembly constituency under the pretext of e-KYC verification.
She claimed fair-price shopkeepers were being pressured to facilitate the process and alleged that voter names removed through e-KYC would later be deleted from electoral rolls. Accusing the Election Commission of acting in favour of the BJP, Borthakur said a “vote theft model” similar to Bihar was being implemented in Assam. Other Opposition parties have also raised concerns over the exercise ahead of the Assembly elections.
