Assam Congress Demands Accountability for Flood Management Failures in Guwahati

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) has demanded a white paper from the state government on how Rs. 802 crore was spent on Guwahati’s “smart city” projects, questioning their effectiveness after severe flooding on August 5. The APCC has also called for the dismissal of Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Ashok Singhal, citing his failure to address the city’s artificial flooding and alleging misconduct in construction activities. The party demands compensation for residents who suffered property damage. The Congress also criticized Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and his ministers for not adequately tackling the flood situation.
