Assam Congress Issues Show-Cause Notice to Joint Secretary Amid Political Tensions

The Assam Congress has issued a show-cause notice to its joint secretary Panjak Saikia for allegedly making inappropriate remarks in the media against former state party president Bhupen Kumar Borah. Saikia has been asked to respond within 24 hours.

Meanwhile, political tensions escalated after Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi accused Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma’s family of illegally acquiring large tracts of land, a claim strongly denied by Sarma. The Chief Minister announced plans to file civil and criminal defamation cases against senior Congress leaders on February 9, intensifying the confrontation ahead of the state assembly elections.
