Assam Congress Opens Candidate Applications for 2026 Polls

The Assam Pradesh Congress Committee on Monday launched its preparations for the 2026 Assembly elections by opening the candidate application process at Rajiv Bhawan in Guwahati. Applications are open until January 20, with aspirants required to submit forms online along with a non-refundable fee of ₹50,000.

APCC general secretary (organisation) Bipul Gogoi became the first applicant, seeking a ticket from Tingkhong, while Supreme Court advocate Abu Taher Ali Bepari applied from Dhubri. Both expressed confidence in the party’s prospects under APCC president Gaurav Gogoi.

Meanwhile, Dhubri MP Rakibul Hussain said voters are dissatisfied with the BJP-led NDA government and claimed the Congress has formed multiple committees to strengthen its election strategy, signalling the party’s full shift into poll mode.
