Assam Enforces Mandatory Red Reflectors for Vehicles at Border Checkpoints

Vehicle owners and drivers, especially those of commercial vehicles, are being alerted that entering Assam without the mandated red reflectors can result in fines or being turned back at the border. As per Central Motor Vehicle Rule 104, all vehicles (four-wheelers and above) must have two red reflectors on both sides of their rear. This rule is being strictly enforced at the Assam-Bengal border in Kokrajhar district on National Highway 27 at Srirampur gate.

Kokrajhar District Transport Officer Dhajen Basumatary, in collaboration with local police, has led a campaign to ensure compliance among commercial vehicles entering Assam. The Assam government has been installing these reflectors for vehicles lacking them, but only temporarily. Eventually, vehicles without reflectors will face fines and be denied entry. Exceptions are made for trucks carrying medicines and emergency supplies, provided reflectors are installed at the border by transport authorities.

Since the campaign began, over 80,000 commercial vehicles have been equipped with red reflectors.
