Assam Forest Ranger Arrested for Alleged Bribery

An Assam Forest Service officer, Shivashish Shandilya, was arrested by the Anti-Corruption Directorate in Assam for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 12,000 in Lakhimpur district.
Officials also recovered Rs 5.68 lakh in cash during a search at his residence in Guwahati. The arrest followed a complaint by a dumper vehicle owner who accused the ranger of demanding regular payments and harassing transporters.
Sources said local MLA Manab Deka helped connect the complainant with anti-corruption officials. Authorities have launched a detailed investigation into alleged wider corruption within the forest department.
