Assam Government Proposes ‘Assam Healing Practices Bill, 2024’ to Curb Magical Healing Evils

The Assam Government has introduced the ‘Assam Healing (Prevention of Evil) Practices Bill, 2024’ in the ongoing budget session of the Assam Legislative Assembly. The bill aims to bring about social awareness by prohibiting participation in healing practices and magical healing propagation for treatment. Additionally, any form of advertisement making false claims about curing diseases through such practices is also prohibited. The bill addresses concerns about the physical and mental health risks associated with these practices. The proposed penalties include imprisonment and fines for offenders, escalating with subsequent convictions to deter the propagation of harmful magical healing practices.
