Assam Government to Hire Doctors on Contract to Address Shortage
Facing a shortage of specialist doctors, the Assam government plans to hire doctors and faculties on a contractual basis. This idea was discussed in a meeting of representatives from 13 medical colleges, chaired by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Hospital management societies will be empowered to hire staff as needed. Since 2021, there has been a 100% increase in patients at medical colleges. Additionally, birth certificates and Aadhaar cards will soon be issued to newborns in government hospitals, with a successful trial already conducted at Barpeta Medical College.
