Assam Govt Ensures Free Medicine Supply Through Ayushman Arogya Mandirs

Health Minister Ashok Singhal announced measures to strengthen the supply of free essential medicines across Assam’s hospitals and Ayushman Arogya Mandirs. The state spent ₹378 crore on free medicines in 2024-25, with ₹445 crore earmarked for 2025-26.

To cut patient costs, doctors have been asked to prescribe generic medicines instead of branded ones. Patients can also report unavailability of medicines via WhatsApp. Assam currently has 4,873 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and over 1,000 PHCs, though the state still faces a shortage of specialist doctors.
