Assam Govt Forms Inquiry Commission on BTC Secretariat Protest

The Government of Assam has set up a one-man inquiry commission headed by former Gauhati High Court judge Justice H. N. Sarma to investigate the incident at the Bodoland Territorial Council Secretariat in Kokrajhar on November 29, 2025.
The commission, formed under the Commissions of Inquiry Act, 1952, will examine the protest by student organisations of Bodoland University, including the march to the BTC Secretariat, alleged breach of barricades, forced entry, and vandalism.
It will also review the response of the district administration, police, and BTC officials, and assess any lapses in handling the situation and the damage caused to public property.
The commission has invited written statements from the Assam government, BTC authorities, Bodoland University, affected individuals, and the public. Submissions, along with supporting documents and affidavits, must reach the commission by March 26, 2026. Hearings and evidence recording will be announced later.
