Assam Govt Forms Panel to Probe Infant’s Death at GMCH

The Assam government has set up a three-member committee to investigate the death of a four-day-old girl at GMCH’s NICU. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma termed it an “unprecedented incident” and suspended the on-duty nurse. The committee, including officials from the state and AIIMS, will submit a report in 3–4 days. Sarma ruled out overcrowding, citing human error, and assured the grieving parents of full government support. Police are yet to register a case.
