Assam Govt Raises Tea Garden Workers’ Wages by Rs 30

The Assam government has approved a Rs 30 hike in daily wages for tea garden workers, effective from April 1, 2026. With the revision, workers in the Brahmaputra Valley will receive Rs 280 per day, while those in the Barak Valley will get Rs 258.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the increase is an interim measure, and further discussions with labour unions and tea garden management will continue to finalise the wage structure. Assam has over 10 lakh tea workers across about 850 tea estates.
