Assam Govt to Grant Land Rights to Tea Garden Workers by Year-End

Assam will grant land rights to tea garden workers by October–November, Minister Rupesh Gowala announced. Workers on estate lands will get land deeds, while those on government lands can apply under the Basundhara scheme. A daily wage of ₹250 will also be implemented soon. The minister raised concern over rising TB cases and ordered tea estates to appoint medical staff within a month. He also called for strict action against child marriage and liquor abuse in tea garden areas. Welfare schemes and infrastructure projects for tea tribes were reviewed in Jorhat.
