Assam Launches ₹1,500 Monthly Aid Scheme for Udasin Bhakats

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Friday launched a financial assistance scheme providing ₹1,500 per month to Udasin Bhakats—celibate Vaishnavite monks attached to Satras across the state. The scheme, announced in last year’s budget, will benefit 620 monks, with the highest number from Majuli.
The assistance will be directly credited to beneficiaries’ bank accounts. Sarma said the initiative reflects the government’s commitment to preserving Assam’s Vaishnavite heritage, highlighting the role of Satras as custodians of the state’s spiritual and cultural traditions.
