Assam Launches Nijut Moina Scheme to Support Girls’ Education and Combat Child Marriage
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Mukhya Mantri Nijut Moina Scheme, aimed at supporting over 10 lakh girl students in higher education. The scheme provides monthly stipends ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 2,500, depending on the level of study. It excludes married students at higher levels and those in private institutions, except for married post-graduate students. Sarma emphasized that the scheme aims to reduce child marriage in Assam, which is prevalent in central and lower regions, and criticized past governments for inaction on this issue.
