Assam Moves to Legalise Traditional Buffalo Fight Moh Juj

The Assam government has introduced a bill to exempt the traditional buffalo fight Moh Juj from the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, allowing it during Magh Bihu and other approved occasions. The amendment highlights Moh Juj as cultural heritage and aligns with similar exemptions in states like Tamil Nadu and Maharashtra.

The move follows a court ruling that previously halted such events. The government says the practice will continue under regulated conditions to ensure animal welfare.
