Assam NDA to Finalise Seat-Sharing by Mid-February: CM Sarma

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the ruling NDA will announce its seat-sharing arrangement by or after February 15 as talks among alliance partners near completion ahead of the 2026 Assembly polls. He said he held detailed discussions with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, with BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary also present, and confirmed consultations with UPPL and AGP leaders.

Sarma said seat-sharing would not be a major issue and dismissed reports of serious differences within the NDA, including with AGP. While alliance partners have expressed their electoral ambitions, no final stand has been announced yet. Political observers see the latest high-level talks as a move to resolve differences and present a united front, with Amit Shah expected to visit Assam on January 29.
