Assam Opposition Forum Urges President to Repeal CAA, Warns of Democratic Mass Movement

The United Opposition Forum in Assam, consisting of sixteen opposition parties, submitted a memorandum to President Droupadi Murmu through Governor Gulab Chand Kataria, urging the repeal of the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and opposing its implementation in the state. Expressing concerns over the CAA’s potential impact on Assam’s history, culture, social fabric, economy, and identity, the opposition parties called the act unconstitutional and a threat to the 1985 Assam Accord. The memorandum emphasized the opposition’s clear stand against the CAA since its introduction, warning of a Democratic Mass Movement if the government doesn’t heed their plea to repeal the controversial act.
