Assam Opposition Leader Backs Government’s Child Marriage Crackdown

Guwahati: Assam Assembly Leader of the Opposition Wazed Ali Choudhary has supported the state government’s crackdown on child marriage, stating that arresting those involved is justified. He also highlighted efforts by NGOs to prevent the practice.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had earlier reported 524 arrests and 441 registered cases across Assam. Dhubri district recorded 63 detentions across nine police station areas, including alleged offenders, parents and guardians.
