Assam Panchayat Polls Likely Before Magh Bihu, Political Strategies Underway

Assam’s Panchayat elections are expected before Magh Bihu, announced Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass. Draft election rules will be completed post-December 15, after which poll dates will be notified.

Political parties view the elections as crucial groundwork for the 2026 Assembly polls. ASOM General Secretary Lurinjyoti Gogoi called the polls a “semi-final” and stressed opposition unity. Talks about Congress rejoining the ASOM alliance remain uncertain but possible.
