Assam Passes Bill to Form Karbi Welfare Council

The Assam Assembly on Friday passed the Karbi Welfare Autonomous Council Bill, 2025, to create a welfare body for Karbi people living outside the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council area. The Bill was passed by voice vote.

Seven other amendment bills related to various tribal councils were also approved to improve financial discipline, transparency, and accountability.

Additionally, the Moran and Matak Autonomous Council amendment bills were passed, completing a series of legislative updates for tribal welfare bodies in the state.
