Assam Plans to Reduce Kaziranga Eco-Sensitive Zone to 1 Km

Bokakhat, Assam: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has announced plans to seek formal notification of the Eco-Sensitive Zone (ESZ) around Kaziranga National Park and reduce its extent from the existing 10-kilometre default limit to one kilometre.

Sarma said the state government would submit a proposal to the Centre within two months. He said the move could provide greater clarity on development regulations and ease restrictions affecting infrastructure projects around Kaziranga.

The Chief Minister also announced plans for a stadium and improvements to civic infrastructure in Bokakhat, with further assessment of the proposed projects to be carried out.
