Assam Reclaims Over 1.19 Lakh Bighas in Anti-Encroachment Drive: CM Sarma

CM Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that Assam has reclaimed over 1.19 lakh bighas (160 sq km) of land since 2021 from illegal settlers. The recovered areas include forests, grazing lands, and religious sites.

Notable recoveries include Lumding, Burachapori, and Orang reserves, where wildlife like elephants and rhinos have returned. Sarma dismissed claims of re-encroachment and emphasized ecological restoration. A detailed Forest Department update is expected soon.
