Assam Records Sharp Decline in School Dropout Rates: UDISE+ Report

Assam has made remarkable progress in reducing school dropout rates across all levels of education, according to the latest UDISE+ 2024–25 report.
Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu said reforms and infrastructural upgrades have boosted enrolment, retention, and transition rates. Dropouts fell significantly—from 6.2% to 3.8% at the lower primary level, 8.2% to 5.0% at upper primary, and 25.1% to 17.5% at secondary. Key initiatives include the Shiksha Setu app, AI-based attendance, and improved learning environments.
Gross enrolment and retention also showed steady growth, while transition rates between school stages improved, with the shift from secondary to senior secondary jumping from 52.5% to 61.4%.
Infrastructure has reached near-universal coverage: boys’ and girls’ toilets in over 98% of schools, drinking water in 99%, electricity in 97.8%, and libraries in 100%. Pegu added that boundary walls for around 20,000 schools will be addressed by the next academic year.
