The Assam government has decided to send a four-member team to Tamil Nadu on Friday to inspect the condition of Joymala, an adult female elephant allegedly being tortured at a temple in the southern State.
The decision was taken after Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma held a meeting with top Forest Department officials on Thursday evening.
Assam CM Himanta Said “We are against any form of cruelty to animals. Hence, reports of ill-treatment to Joymala, an elephant from Assam, in Tamil Nadu have pained us.
Held a meeting with Forest Dept officials in presence of Environment & Forest Minister Shri CM Patowary to discuss the matter.”
Formed a 4-member team comprising Forest, Veterinary & Police officials.
The team will visit Tamil Nadu on Sept 2 to discuss the matter with Forest Dept officials there, inspect the elephant & pave the way for its return to Assam.
