Assam to Display 16th-Century Vrindavani Vastra in 2027

The Assam government has signed a loan agreement with the British Museum to bring the historic 16th-century Vrindavani Vastra to the State for display in 2027. Created under Srimanta Sankardeva’s guidance for Koch king Nara Narayan, the silk textile depicts the life of Lord Krishna. Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma called it a proud cultural moment, marking the Vastra’s return after more than a century. The JSW Group facilitated the deal and will help build a world-class museum in Guwahati for its exhibition. This will be the first time a portion of the Vastra is showcased in Assam since it was taken out through Tibet, with its fragments now spread across global museums.
