Assam to Emerge as Global River Cruise Hub
Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced major projects to boost river tourism in Assam and the Northeast. Two luxury cruise ships worth ₹250 crore are being built for the Brahmaputra, set to launch in 2027 under the Cruise Bharat Mission. Over ₹1,000 crore is being invested in inland waterways, including a ₹239-crore ship repair facility at Pandu, tourist jetties, and skill centres. Assam already operates 14 of India’s 25 cruise vessels, with growing global recognition, positioning the state as a future river cruise destination.
