Assam to Get Five Paperless Courts and Seven Special NDPS Courts

Assam is set to establish five paperless courts and seven exclusive courts for handling NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) cases. The Gauhati High Court noted that ₹3.85 crore has been allocated for the paperless courts.

The court directed authorities to expedite the digitisation of pending cases, as the paperless courts cannot become operational until the process is completed. The seven proposed NDPS courts are planned for Kamrup, Nagaon, Dhubri, Tinsukia, Barpeta, Morigaon and Karbi Anglong, though Sribhumi and Cachar are also being considered due to high case pendency.

The High Court was also informed that a tender has been floated for the construction of a judicial guest house at Kaziranga.
