Assam to Prepare Feasibility Report on Wetlands for Floodwater Diversion
Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan has directed the Assam government to prepare a feasibility report on using 271 wetlands to divert floodwaters and rejuvenate them by December 2024. The project may cost up to Rs 500 crore, with details to emerge after a detailed survey. The Water Resources Department (WRD) identified nine wetlands in seven districts for the first phase. Additionally, the fishery department discussed the Sustainable Wetland and Integrated Fisheries Transformation (SWIFT) project with the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
