Assam to Recruit Up to 20,000 Police Personnel in Five Years

Dergaon: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said the state plans to recruit 15,000 to 20,000 new police personnel over the next five years as part of the government’s target to provide two lakh government jobs to youths. Speaking at the passing-out parade of 403 personnel at the Lachit Borphukan Police Academy, he said the government is also working to make Assam Police a zero-vacancy force.

Sarma highlighted the state’s reported progress in crime control and the fight against drugs, saying narcotics worth Rs 3,254 crore had been seized over the past five years. He called for stronger action against crimes targeting women and children, child marriage, polygamy and drug trafficking, particularly in Barak Valley, Golaghat, Sivasagar, Tinsukia and Dibrugarh.
