Assam to Withdraw Cases Against NEET Protesters, Review Arrests

Guwahati: The Assam government has announced that it will withdraw all cases registered in connection with the NEET (UG) protests and will not initiate any further legal action against those who participated in the agitation.

According to an official statement, five cases had been registered in the state till July 26, leading to the arrest of 13 protesters. The government said it will also review the arrests and expedite the release of those currently in custody, following due legal procedures.

The decision comes a day after the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) criticised the Centre over the arrest of NEET protesters despite assurances that peaceful demonstrators would not face punitive action. Meanwhile, the issue also figured in Parliament, where Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi called the proposed anti-paper leak legislation inadequate and sought broader reforms in the examination system.
