Assam Unveils ₹77,000 Crore Plan to Become Power-Surplus State

Dispur: The Assam Government has announced an ambitious ₹77,000 crore investment plan to make the state power-surplus for the first time. Presenting the 2026–27 Budget, Finance Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah outlined major investments in thermal, hydro, solar, pumped storage and power transmission projects.
The plan includes a 3,200 MW thermal power plant at Bilasipara, new hydropower and solar projects, and expansion of transmission infrastructure. The government also aims to add 120 substations, 15,000 km of power lines, and reduce transmission losses over the next five years.
