Assam Wildlife Biologist Wins ‘Green Oscar’ for Greater Adjutant Stork Conservation

Dr. Purnima Devi Barman, renowned for her conservation efforts with the greater adjutant stork in Assam, has been honored with the Whitley Gold Award 2024, recognized as the ‘Green Oscar.’ Her work, notably through the Hargila Army initiative, has been lauded for its community-driven approach to safeguarding the stork and its wetland habitat. Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal extended congratulations, highlighting her leadership in environmental conservation and empowerment of women.
