Assam Women’s University Shifts to Permanent Campus in Jorhat

Assam Women’s University has moved to its permanent campus at Kaliyapani in Teok, Jorhat, over a decade after its establishment. The Rs 29-crore campus, spread across 58 bighas, was inaugurated by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, who assured continued government support.
The first women’s university in the Northeast, it was established in 2013 and earlier operated from Assam Agricultural University. Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said the institution was long neglected but is now gaining momentum.
The university currently has 17 departments, 46 programmes, NAAC accreditation, and over 1,200 students, with modern facilities and a girls’ hostel under construction.
