Assam’s Economic Surge: Finance Minister Ajanta Neog Presents Optimistic State Budget 2024-25
During the presentation of the State Budget 2024-25 at the Assam Legislative Assembly, Finance Minister Ajanta Neog announced that Assam’s economy is outpacing the national growth rate. The projected estimate for the State GDP at current prices in 2024-25 is Rs. 6.43 lakh crore, marking a remarkable 150% increase over the GSDP of Rs. 2.54 lakh crore in 2016-17. Neog highlighted the encouraging growth figures, including a 15.6% increase in nominal GSDP for 2023-24, reaching Rs. 5.70 lakh crore. The State’s contribution to the national economy has also risen, with the GSDP increasing from 1.65% in 2016-17 to 1.81% in 2022-23 at current prices. Furthermore, Assam’s per capita income has more than doubled within the last seven years, reaching Rs. 1,20,336 in 2022-23 and estimated to reach Rs. 1,35,787 in 2023-24. Finance Minister Neog expressed optimism about the state’s economic trajectory.
