Assam’s Egg Production Rises, But Supply Gap Remains High

Guwahati: Assam’s egg production has increased significantly in recent years, but the state continues to face a major shortage. Government data shows egg availability rose from 56 crore in 2022–23 to 98 crore in 2025–26, while the estimated annual requirement reached 291 crore eggs.
The deficit has narrowed from 580.8 crore eggs in 2022–23 to about 193 crore in 2025–26. However,

Assam still depends heavily on supplies from states such as Andhra Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab to meet local demand. The continuing shortage remains an important concern for the state’s food security and livestock economy.
