Assam’s FAAMCH Leads with On-Site Birth Certificate and Aadhaar Issuance for Newborns
Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed Medical College and Hospital (FAAMCH) in Barpeta has pioneered a program to provide newborns with birth certificates and Aadhaar numbers during discharge, making it the first in Assam to do so. Launched on June 21, this initiative is a joint effort between the medical college administration and district authorities. Two sets of new parents were the first to benefit from this service, receiving the documents on the hospital premises. Key officials, including FAAMCH Principal Dr. Ramen Talukdar, Superintendent Dr. Partha Pratim Baruah, and Barpeta’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (Health) Geetashri Lachit, attended the ceremony. The initiative follows the Chief Minister’s directive to all medical colleges in Assam to issue birth certificates to newborns before discharge, with FAAMCH taking the additional step of including Aadhaar enrollment. This effort aims to simplify the documentation process for new parents, reducing the need for multiple government office visits during the early days of childcare.
