Assam’s First Phase of Lok Sabha Elections Sees Political Heavyweights Cast Votes

In the first phase of Lok Sabha elections in Assam, notable political figures such as Congress candidate Gaurav Gogoi and Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal exercised their franchise. Gaurav Gogoi was seen voting in the Jorhat constituency, while Sarbananda Sonowal cast his vote amidst contesting against AJP’s Lurinjyoti Gogoi in Dibrugarh.

Lurinjyoti Gogoi, in the running against Sonowal, also participated by casting his vote. The voting process began at 7 am and is set to conclude at 5 pm, with strict security measures in place to ensure fairness. The first phase includes constituencies such as Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Kaziranga, Sonitpur, and Lakhimpur.

Over 86.47 lakh voters are eligible to vote, including 43.64 lakh women and 42.82 lakh men, along with 123 third-gender individuals, across 10,001 polling booths, showcasing a substantial turnout.
