Assam’s Rupamoni Gorh Becomes First Woman from State to Scale Mount Everest

Rupamoni Gorh from Lakhimpur district has become the first woman from Assam to successfully climb Mount Everest.

The 26-year-old was part of an 11-member all-women ITBP expedition team that reached the summit on May 21 under the Union Ministry of Home Affairs’ Nari Shakti Vandan programme. The expedition was led by Bhanita Timungpi.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma congratulated Rupamoni, calling her achievement a proud and historic moment for the state and an inspiration for the youth.
